Jean-Pierre Isore pays his respects at the veteran's memorial in front of the RCMP's headquarters on the 70th anniversary of D-Day on June 6. Isore was born in Nazi-occupied France but emigrated to Canada in 1976. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was deployed as part of UN missions in Cyprus, the Golan Heights, India and Pakistan, and central Africa as a military adviser to the UN secretary general. Joined by a few members of Joint Task Force North, he organized a gathering with a at the veteran's memorial in front of the RCMP's headquarters in order to mark the occasion.
"'Lest we forget is more than just words," he said. "We just wanted to show that even in Yellowknife, people remember."
